Spring Outdoor Education at Camp Lincoln is winding down and the warm weather is about to make itself known. We have had a wonderful time with all of the groups who have come out to camp so far this year and look forward to seeing them in the future.
One of the most outstanding groups we have had at camp this season was Stand By Me. Stand By Me comes to Camp every spring in an effort to merge the 5th grades of D.J. Bakie Elementary School in Kingston and Memorial Elementary School in Newton into a single cohesive 6th grade for the upcoming school year at Sanborn Regional Middle School. We had nearly 130 students along with teachers and parents come out to camp for a day of teambuilding, adventure, and fun. Our facilitators led the kids in games, low ropes activities, and boating. Even though it rained for a portion of the day, spirits were not dampened and a sense of unity was evident by the end of the day.
Stand by Me is a great example of what we try to accomplish with each OE group that comes to Camp. It is our goal that each group takes home a feeling of accomplishment, new skills or knowledge, and fond memories.
OE is almost over for the season and it has really been a wonderful season. We look forward to the fall and all of the groups that will make their way out to camp.
See you soon,
Geof Harris, Camping Program Director at YMCA Camp Lincoln
