Paddle Plunge: Thank you.

Last Saturday, brave YMCA enthusiasts donned creative costumes, gathered on the shore of Kingston Lake at Camp Lincoln, and took the Plunge to support families in our community who need help to attend YMCA programs. Of the 60 degree weather last week, Saturday pulled in at a chilly 50 degrees, just days after the ice thawed on Kingston Lake. The cold water did not stop the Paddle Plungers from enjoying each other’s company, and laughing all the way into the lake and back out again.

Many thank you’s are in order. Our incredible School Age Child Care team has worked tirelessly for the past three months to generate energy and enthusiasm for the Paddle Plunge. Students and YMCA staff held art auctions, jean days for teachers, carnivals, and more at 15 school sites to raise money to help their peers and friends to access YMCA programs. Camp Lincoln staff spent days preparing camp for visitors, and clearing the final signs of winter. Most importantly, our friends and community members worked together to raise almost $5,000, all of which will directly strengthen our community.

We are still reaching for our $5,000 goal! Southern District YMCA received a $5,000 matching grant from JCPenney to provide school-aged children with financial assistance to attend afterschool programs at the YMCA. When we reach our goal and match this grant, we will double our community’s youth access to life-enriching afterschool programs that cultivate the values, relationships and skills kids need to thrive. Stay tuned for details about a May 13 fundraiser at Community Oven in Hampton, NH!
